Welcome to the Layout Design Special Interest Group.

The LDSIG is a non-profit, non-sectarian, non-partisan, non-stock corporation recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. For more information about the LDSIG officers and bylaws use the About link at the top of this page.

The primary way of communication between members is through the Layout Design Journal, our quarterly publication. (Please note that although the LDJ is quarterly, the LDSIG is a volunteer organization and the issues might deviate slightly. Your membership covers four issues, not one year.)

The LDSIG also contributes to the content of the NMRA National Conventions. Information about the SIG’s involvement can be found on the Conventions link at the top of this page.

We also have two reference documents that we provide to all new members of the SIG. Please click their titles to download them.

  1. “Questions for Layout Designers, Operators, Visitors, and Builders”, by LDSIG founder Doug Gurin.

  2. “Layout Design Discussion Topics”.

Both of these publications will help you get started with your layout designing efforts, and will help you appreciate and understand the content of the LDJ.
