Mike o’brien - MKT railroad of Texas
HO Scale
Mike O’Brien’s layout location is in Pasadena.
Mike's layout is in the early stages of construction with many interesting features in its design and benchwork construction. Mike spent 25 years digging the basement, moving parts of the historic house onto the property, completing the house over the basement, and all the while designing and imagining the HO model railroad layout which was the impetus for the whole project. The M-K-T model railroad is 3-levels in 1000 square feet modeling Dallas, Texas north to the Red River at Oklahoma. There are two branch lines plus a second main line to Fort Worth. DCC power is by NCE. The era is steam-diesel transition. No scenery yet. Mike is 81 years old, and expects to complete the benchwork, track and wiring first, then hold operating sessions while gradually completing scenery. It is a lifetime project. Mike joined the NMRA in 1956 while a teenager, and grew up in San Francisco modeling the Southern Pacific. He has been heavily involved in model railroad clubs and the NMRA for most of his life, and attended most NMRA national conventions since 1987. He is a past president of the Layout Design SIG.
