Bob Krebs' Crooked Creek RR and Transportation Co. and Buffalo Valley Branch Line

 

THESE RAILROADS ARE MOSTLY FICTITIOUS WITH A FEW ACTUAL DETAILS HERE AND THERE.

     IN 1872, SHORTLY AFTER THE CIVIL WAR, EDGAR J.SPRUCE OBTAINED AN OPTION ON ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND ACRES OF PRIME TIMBER IN AND AROUND THE CROOKED RIVER VALLEY IN WEST VIRGINIA PROVIDED HE BUILD A RAILROAD CONNECTING  THE SOUTHERN R.R. ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE STATE WITH THE CLINCHFIELD R.R. ON THE KENTUCKY SIDE OF THE BIG SANDY RIVER.THIS CONNECTION WOULD HELP MOVE MUCH NEEDED COTTON AND WESTERN BEEF TO THE NORTHERN STATES AND MANUFACTURED GOODS FROM THE NORTHERN STATES TO THE SOUTH.

     FAST FORWARD TO THE YEAR 1916. THIS VENTURE PROSPERED BEYOND ANY OF EDGAR SPRUCE DREAMS.THE EASTERN INTERCHANGE GREW TO BECOME TIMBER CREEK JUST EIGHT MILES NORTH OF LYNCHBURG W.V. AND THE WESTERN INTERCHANGE  BECAME KNOWN AS TUG VALLEY.ACROSS THE BIG SANDY RIVER IN KENTUCKY  THE MAIN YARD AND ENGINE FACILITY OPERATED.BETWEEN THESE TWO TOWNS CROOKED CREEK WITH THE EASTERN YARD,AND THE CITY OF BLACKFORK GREW.ON THE BUFFALO VALLEY BRANCH LINE,BUFFALO JUNCTION AND BUFFALO FLATS PROSPERED.

     TIMBER FROM THE LOG BRANCH AND THE BUFFALO VALLEY BRANCH LINE KEEP THE FOUR SAW MILLS BUSY SUPPLYING LUMBER TO THE FURNITURE FACTORIES AND THE BARREL MANUFACTURER PLUS MUCH NEEDED LUMBER UP NORTH.THE TWO MEAT PACKING PLANTS WORK TO PROVIDE MEAT LOCALLY AND THE NORTHERN STATES.THEY SEND THE HIDES TO THE LOCAL LEATHER TANNERY,WHICH AFTER PROCESSING MOVE SOME TO THE RED WING BOOT AND SHOE FACTORY AND THE WOLVERING WORLD WIDE BUSINESS ( WHICH IN MODERN TIMES IS NOW HUSH PUPPIES ).

     THE COAL MINE ON THE BUFFALO VALLEY  BRANCH LOADS TWO DRAGS DURING AN OP SESSION,ONE DELIVERED LOCALLY AND THE OTHER TO THE NORTHERN STATES THROUGH THE INTERCHANGE AT TIMBER CREEK.THERE ARE MANY OTHER INDUSTERIES WHICH MOVE PRODUCTS LOCALLY AND OFF LINE THROUGH THE INTERCHANGES.

     THIS IS A POINT TO POINT RAILROAD,SCENERY IS COMPLETED WITH MANY F.S.M. OR OTHER CRAFTSMAN TYPE OR SCRATCH STRUCTURES AND SIX TURN TABLES WHICH ARE ALL USED DURING AN OP SESSION.

     THE CROOKED CREEK RAILROAD IS LOCATED IN A ROOM,TWO LEVELS WITH THE LOG BRANCH AT THE THIRD LEVEL. THE EASTERN YARD IS LOCATED HERE AND AN AROUND THE WALL HELIX BEHIND THE SCENERY PROVIDES MOVEMENT BETWEEN THE LEVELS.TWO HOLES IN THE WALL PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE GARAGE  WITH TWO LEVELS AND THE ENGINE FACILITY
